Race Across Kent – Spring 2024

This weekend the Curious Runners’ Race Across Kent was back for it’s second season.

2023’s inaugural Curious Runners Race Across Kent saw four teams of five take a train from Ashford to Wye and race back, checking in to pubs along the way. Following its success, Race Across Kent was back last weekend with popular demand and, this year, there were a few rule changes to keep our runners on their toes.

Contestants were still only allowed to use a compass and the maps provided to navigate between checkpoints but, teams were split into two (with one team of three) and were set off with a staggered start based on their recent race times.

There was a 30 minute delay between the first and last team, and that deficit would gradually close between each checkpoint. The route took teams from The Pavilion cricket club in Charing, to The Swan Inn at Little Chart and New Chimneys in Godinton, before a gripping final leg ending at Curious Brewery Ashford.

Unfortunately, the final team to set off took a wrong turn, adding 25 minutes to their time leaving themselves with an impossible task to claim top spot. The race for the brewery was still a spicy one as there were less than 5 minutes between first and second place!

A massive well done to Gary and Ida, who’s calm heads crowned them Race Across Kent champions!

There were certainly some lessons for everyone else to take away from this race, ahead of our next Race Across Kent in September!
