For this year’s Curious Runner Half Marathon Trip, we decided to tick Menorca off the list and, as with last year, we had some flight issues with our early morning flight being cancelled.
After changing to a later flight, we were excited by a new development for 2025 as we discovered Joe would be on an earlier flight and could be the group’s Advance Party. He was able to pick one of the rentals vans up, collect all of our race numbers and t-shirts and even did a shop (or should I say beer and wine run! It was all unpacked and chilling as he returned to the airport to collect the rest of us.
With 14 of us signing up, only 13 of us made it to the plane. And, of that 13, 3of us had injuries that meant we were unable to run. That didn’t stop us coming along and acting as The Official Curious Cheer Squad.
On race day, we all drove to the start line and it didn’t take long for the usual pre-race nerves to disappear. The half marathon was a two-lap course which meant the cheer squad were able to get to see our Curious buddies on four occasions to give them some loud encouragement along the way.
The general consensus was it was a hot and tough race but all 10 who started finished the race with special congratulations going to Emma, Wes, Danny and Joe who all claimed PBs — with Emma finally finishing in under 2 hours!
Once the race had finished, the rest of the stay was a typical Curious Runners Retreat with plenty of beer, wine, spritzes, good food and games. An evening of everyone adding songs to Luke’s Spotify playlist was particularly enjoyable — though it was probably a good job that the villas either side of us were empty, otherwise there could have been some noise complaints about the Curious Runners Choir Sing-along!
Once again, another Curious Runners success with great company.
Where will next year’s half marathon be? You won’t be surprised to know planning has already begun!
